The publication I will write is a feature article about species extinction in Australia. The feature article written in God’s perspective, is intend to be titled “Rapid extinction of species: Australian ecology is encountering extensive challenges”. I am planning to publish it on The Guardian because it is mainly targeting 15-to-44-year-old people who are committed to the fairness of the society and prioritise outstanding journalism. The seriousness of the species extinction in Australia will get highly noticed if I publish my article there.
A featured article on The Guardian titled “Australia is in an extinction crisis – why isn’t it an issue at this election? ” talking about the increasing seriousness of species extinction in Australia and how it did not get enough attention in the federal election this year gives me the inspiration. Also, a research conducted by Australian National University mentioned that the EPBC Act List of Threatened Species has risen to 2138, reflecting a 52% rise from 2000. In 2024, 41 species had been included into this list, a decrease from the unprecedented 130 included in 2023, while still exceeding the typical annual acquisition for 25 species. Furthermore, 14 species have been elevated to a more severe level of threat of extinction. Australian federal elections will take place soon. Taking this opportunity, I will urge the government to pay attention to this issue through this article. Australian people value the environment a lot, and it is possible for my article to attract Australian government’s attention.

My article will contain three parts. The first part will explain the rapid speed of species extinction in Australia. The serious consequence of this crisis will be stated out in the second part. Things that Australian government should do aviod this crisis from getting worse will be listed in the last part. Along with the appealing words within my article, I will use types of multimedia, hypertext and interactivity to attract my audiences.
Aside of publishing the article on The Guardian’s website, I will also publish a video on YouTube explaining the rapid speed of species extinction in Australia and the seriouness of this crisis to apeal Australian government to pay attention to it and solve it soon. Additionally, I will repost the video on X and write a brief introduction for it. Regarding to hypertext, the data of Australian National University’s research which is mentioned before will be attached in my article to increase its reliability. Apropos the interactivity, I will insert a heat map in my article where the pictures of some endangered species in Australia overlayed with the EPBC Act List of Threatened Species data are included. The colour intensity will indicate the level of endangerment of these species —— lighter colours signify a greater level of endangerment while deeper colours denote a lesser level of endangerment.

In conclusion, I will make appealing online journalism works and publicise it appropriately to do my bit in stopping more Australian species from being extincted.
